Service Alerts:* Engine oil pan drain bolt hole thread damage: This is caused by (1) not replacing the engine oil drain bolt crush washer at every oil change (2) overtorquing the engine oil pan drain bolt to non-factory specs (3) cross-threading the drain bolt during the installation process. Burned engine valves and excess wear: This is caused by (1) poor quality valve adjustments (2) adjusting valves when engine temperature is not to factory specs (3) not adjusting valves at factory intervals or (4) no valve adjustment performed at all. The purpose of a valve adjustment is to bring the clearance between the tip of valve stem and the rocker arm back in to the specified clearance that was determined by HONDA. As the camshaft rotates, it pushes on the valve stem by a rocker arm, to open the valves inside the combustion chambers at the proper time. The valves are closed automatically by the valve springs. If the valve clearance is too small, the valves will never fully close when they should be doing so to reduce heat, and this will eventually burn the engine valve, valve seat surface, cause misfiring, and eventually engine damage. The vehicle may also exhibit rough running characteristics either cold, hot or all the time. If the valve clearances get too loose, this will lead to a noisy running engine and will eventually wear and damage the camshaft lobes, rocker arms and the tips of the valves themselves. Exhaust valves clearances typically get smaller and intake valve clearances get larger over time and mileage. This is why we recommend regular valve adjustments. You can not notice if your valve train system is fine just by listenening to them. If you hear ticking noises, it is because of loose intake valve clearances. Tight exhaust valve clearances will not be audible. The USA market is incorrect in their sales and marketing to list the longer valve adjustment intervals. The European market is still correct and should be followed. We will always have the correct HONDA Factory Valve Adjustment Intervals based on your exact engine type and series. * We will document your service repair order at the time of your first service. if your vehicle has one of these symptoms. Our Certified Inspection Checklist will document all symptoms and issues.
